Anniversary: 25 years of Solana on international market

Solana has been responsible for distribution and marketing of SaKa potato varieties for 25 years: Potato breeder is confidently looking ahead

Hamburg, June 30th, 2011: This summer, Solana GmbH & Co. KG celebrates its jubilee and has many other reasons to rejoice: In the fall of 1986, the entry of Solana Agrarprodukte into the Trade Register was requested and confirmed – therefore the business year 2011/12 will be the company’s anniversary year. It is kicked off on June 30th by the customer event „25 years Solana“ taking place in the breeding station in Windeby / Eckernförde with more than 300 invited customers, farmers and business partners from all over the world.

The plant breeding and trading company has a strong market orientation in the international ?eld and is currently represented by sales subsidiaries in ten different countries. „Furthermore, we work with reliable sales partners as exclusive representatives of the Solana varieties as well as with long-standing contracting companies that have licensed partnerships in over 40 countries“, says Managing Director Torsten Spill. The consequent breeding work and entrepreneurial initiative are the driving force behind Solana’s development to the leading private company for quality potato varieties. Its thoughts and actions are still deep-rooted in Germany.

The anniversary year 2011 / 2012 is primarily aiming at making the company and brand Solana even more known on the market and at creating a stronger identification among customers, partners and farmers with the plant breeding company’s service and philosophy. Moreover, Solana continues to actively promote its most popular new breeds and high-grade varieties which did an outstanding performance last season.

„In the segment of table potatoes, there are Campina and Belmonda which inspire through taste, quality, marketable yields, suitability for storage and resistances“, says Spill. „We are also very proud of Toscana which became a top seller due to her robustness and great suitability for storage. Among the special varieties, Verdi, Caruso and Puccini for the production of crisps are novelties on the world market and Ludmilla became a high-yield variety for the production of French fries due to her excellent baking and processing quality.“ The most successful starch varieties of Solana – Quadriga and Burana – both achieved a leading position in all yield competitions in recent years.

„We keep aiming at producing excellent seeds as well as high-quality, marketable varieties which require less pesticides and fertilizers thus enabling a sustainable protection of the environment“, Managing Director Spill comments on the company’s philosophy. „We are proud of what we have achieved and looking forward to the challenges in the future. We are much obliged to our employees whose motivation and dedication enabled us to master the past years and to our customers, who have in part been relying on us for decades.“
